TOUGH LOSS: Auburn Tigers Confirm Departure of Another Fan-Favorite Star to Transfer Portal

A beloved Auburn cornerback is heading back into the NCAA transfer portal, marking the second time in his young career that he’s chosen to explore options outside The Plains.

The redshirt freshman made the announcement subtly through social media, posting a few practice clips shortly after multiple reports confirmed his return to the portal. This decision comes less than a year after he first entered the portal in 2023—only to ultimately remain with the Tigers.

His latest move follows a challenging recovery from a torn ACL suffered in the summer of 2024. The injury sidelined him for much of the year, but he managed to appear in four regular-season games and the Music City Bowl during the 2023 campaign. Despite limited action, he recorded two tackles and was considered a promising young contributor for Auburn’s secondary.

A former 4-star prospect from Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia, Tyler Scottentered college football as one of the top-rated cornerbacks in his class. According to the 247Sports Composite, he ranked as the No. 31 overall player in Georgia, No. 33 cornerback nationally, and No. 321 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. His talent attracted interest from 39 college programs before he committed to Auburn.

His departure will thin Auburn’s depth at cornerback, especially among younger players still developing behind the veterans. However, the Tigers are in a relatively strong position at the position group. Returning starters Kayin Lee and Jay Crawford are expected to anchor the secondary in 2025, and Auburn recently brought in former North Texas corner Raion Strader via the portal to add further depth and experience.

Scott’s future remains uncertain, but with his pedigree and recovery on track, he’s likely to draw attention from multiple programs seeking secondary help. Whether he chooses a fresh start or another return to Auburn, he remains a player with untapped potential who could thrive with the right opportunity.
