At UFC 315, Belal Muhammad will defend his welterweight title for the first time, after a brief interruption to his reign due to an injury.
Following his victory over Leon Edwards at UFC 304 in July, Muhammad was originally scheduled to face the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov later in 2024. However, an unfortunate injury forced him to withdraw from their UFC 310 showdown, paving the way for Rakhmonov to take on Ian Machado Garry instead—and win.
Now fully recovered, “Remember the Name” will face Jack Della Maddalena, after Rakhmonov couldn’t make the quick turnaround for May 10. The welterweight division has seen its share of injury-related delays, but Muhammad’s situation could have been much worse.

Muhammad recently shared the full extent of the toe injury and infection that nearly derailed his UFC 310 fight. In a recent interview on Demetrious Johnson’s MIGHTYcast, the 36-year-old fighter explained just how severe the infection was and how it complicated his recovery. The injury’s intensity made the infection harder to treat and accelerated its worsening, leaving him with no choice but to withdraw from the fight.
