After spending the final stretch of the 2024 NFL season on the sidelines instead of leading the charge for the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Derek Carr now faces an even steeper uphill battle. A troubling shoulder injury has thrown his 2025 season into serious doubt—and surgery may be the only option on the table.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport took to social media to drop the bombshell, revealing that Carr’s status is anything but certain as the team weighs its options at the most critical position on the field.
“The Saints suddenly have a major QB question,” Rapoport wrote. “Starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season, sources say. Carr is weighing options, including the possibility of surgery.”

Carr’s 2024 campaign had already ended on a sour note with a fractured non-throwing hand. Now, with a potentially serious shoulder issue looming, the veteran QB’s shot at redemption in 2025 may be slipping away before it even begins.
