MAJOR BREAKING: Duke Makes Huge Announcement on Another Physically Gifted 5-Star Commitment

Tennessee basketball head coach Rick Barnes isn’t throwing in the towel anytime soon when it comes to the recruitment of elite five-star power forward Nate Ament. While many insiders have speculated that Duke and Louisville may be in the lead for Ament’s commitment, Tennessee remains firmly in the mix, and Barnes continues to make a strong push to secure the top-tier talent.

Ament, originally expected to announce his college choice during the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game, has postponed his decision. This delay has given Barnes and the Volunteers a critical window to further court the highly coveted forward and present a compelling case for why Knoxville could be the ideal landing spot for his college career.

Despite the rumors surrounding Duke and Louisville, Tennessee made Ament’s final list of potential destinations, joining a group of elite programs that also includes Kentucky and Arkansas. While the presence of several SEC schools makes the battle intense within the region, Duke’s Jon Scheyer is also going full throttle in an effort to land Ament in Durham. With several strong contenders in the mix, the race for his commitment remains wide open.

Barnes has stayed actively in communication with Ament, painting a picture of what his development and impact could look like at Tennessee. The Vols’ staff is working to assure Ament that he would not only have an opportunity to shine as a freshman but also be given the space to grow, make mistakes, and learn from them—on the court, in real time. Ament emphasized in a recent interview with analyst Krysten Peek that trust and coach-player relationships are central to his decision-making process.

“Just how I feel and how I trust the coaches and what they’re telling me,” Ament shared with Peek. “How much I truly believe I can come in and be an impact freshman and, honestly, just how much I can come in, make mistakes and learn from them in a game — and the coaches trusting me to make adjustments in the game.”

Ranked as the No. 2 power forward and the No. 4 overall player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Ament has fielded close to 30 scholarship offers during his recruitment. His skill set, basketball IQ, and physical gifts have already positioned him as a likely high first-round NBA draft pick down the line, making him one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2025 recruiting class.

Should Barnes succeed in securing Ament’s signature, it would represent a major recruiting victory for the Volunteers—one that could have both immediate and long-term implications for the program’s success. As the decision approaches—expected in the next week or two—all eyes will be on where this dynamic young talent chooses to take the next step in his basketball journey.
