The Niners are working hard to secure their franchise quarterback, Brock Purdy, for the long haul. Despite his humble beginnings as “Mr. Irrelevant,” Purdy has steadily proved his worth to both the team and the broader football community. Yet, despite his impressive on-field performances, Purdy now faces an internal struggle. General Manager John Lynch and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan have made it clear that they want him to stay, but they’ve also ruled out any fully guaranteed contracts—leaving many to wonder about his future compensation.
Analysts have already pegged Purdy’s market value at around $60 million, which makes the latest reports even more surprising as they suggest a considerably lower figure. To put this in perspective, just last year the Cowboys inked Dak Prescott to a four-year, $240 million deal, even though Prescott never led his team into the NFC Championship. Purdy, by contrast, went undefeated in his rookie season with a 5-0 record, guiding the Niners to the NFC Championship, and then advanced them to Super Bowl LVIII in 2023 with a 12-4 campaign before falling to the Chiefs. Although the current season has seen a downturn—a 6-9 record in 15 games largely due to injuries on the offensive line and defense—the 25-year-old signal caller has yet to suffer any major injuries, leaving plenty of room for growth.
However, the skepticism remains high within the Niners’ front office. In a move that has raised eyebrows, reports indicate that the team might have offered Purdy a contract worth only $45 million, a sum that falls well short of recent quarterback signings. San Francisco Standard reporter David Lombardi further clarified that Purdy isn’t expected to sign for such a low amount, emphasizing that his eventual contract will be judged more by its structure and full guarantees than just its annual average salary.
As the negotiations continue, all eyes are on how the Niners will balance their rebuild strategy with retaining a young quarterback who has already taken the team to unprecedented heights. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Purdy can secure a contract that reflects his true value or if the current offer will force him into an uneasy compromise.
