JUST NOW: Kirby Smart Reveals Major Concerning Update on Another Top Experienced Star

No. 5 Georgia faced a halftime deficit in Saturday’s SEC championship game against No. 2 Texas, but a bigger concern for the Bulldogs emerged surrounding quarterback.

Beck was injured in the final moments of the first half when he was hit by Texas defensive edge Trey Moore. He was sidelined to start the second half and was later reported by ESPN’s Holly Rowe to be unable to return to the game due to a hand injury. Georgia coach Kirby Smart shared that Beck had hurt his hand after the ball was knocked loose by Moore, and the team would assess his condition during halftime.

Beck had a tough first half, completing 7 of 13 passes for just 56 yards. As the Bulldogs aimed for their first SEC championship since 2022, Beck returned in overtime after backup quarterback Gunner Stockton was knocked out of the game following a hard hit. Beck handed off to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning play. ESPN reported that Smart confirmed Beck could not return to the game, and Stockton took over for the second half. Cameras later showed Beck with his right elbow wrapped in ice while receiving medical attention.

Coach Smart commented on Beck’s injury, saying, “He just said his hand got hit as he was throwing it there. The guy came all the way around the edge, which happens in that situation. He needs to be more aware and just get rid of the ball.” Beck had been down on the field for several moments before walking off with medical staff.

Regarding the severity of Beck’s injury, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Smart confirmed it as an upper-body injury, and that Beck would undergo an MRI to assess the extent of the damage as the Bulldogs prepare for their College Football Playoff first-round bye.
