Just in: Wigan Warriors coach confirms Christian Wade selection decision as update given on injured prop…

Wigan Warriors coach Matt Peet has confirmed that rugby union convert Christian Wade won’t make his Super League debut against Huddersfield Giants this weekend. Wade, who joined Wigan from Gloucester, has been participating in reserve games to gain experience and adapt to rugby league.

Injury Update on Luke Thompson

Prop Luke Thompson, who suffered broken ribs against Catalans Dragons, is still experiencing some pain and may not play against Huddersfield Giants. Peet said, “He’s still in a little bit of pain, but he could play at a push. It’s whether we decide to take that step just yet or let him heal a little bit more before we throw him in.”

Christian Wade’s Progress

Wade has been impressing Peet with his attitude and ability to learn quickly. After playing 52 minutes in Wigan’s reserves win over Castleford Tigers, Wade expressed his eagerness to fast-track his learning process. Peet plans to give Wade another reserve game next week before reassessing his progress.

“Wade won’t play this weekend, but he’ll play another game in our reserves next week at St Helens, and then we’ll re-assess,” Peet explained. Wade’s short-term deal with Wigan runs until the end of the season, and Peet believes his skills and athleticism will be valuable assets to the team.

Upcoming Match

Wigan Warriors will face Huddersfield Giants at the FLAIR Stadium in Dewsbury on Saturday, June 14, with kickoff at 3 pm. The team is currently on an eight-game winning streak in Super League, having thumped Salford Red Devils 46-6 prior to the competition’s break for the Challenge Cup final ¹.
