JUST IN: Knicks Blockbuster Trade Sends Two Fans’ Favorite All-Stars Packing

A recent proposal by The Sporting News’ Dean Simon has it that the New York Knicks should make a two way trade to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for all-star big man. The hypothetical deal would bolster the Knicks’ offensive versatility while sacrificing some of their defensive strength.

“In a hypothetical negotiation between New York and Sacramento, the Knicks could get a deal across the finish line financially by offering to part with two-way star and 2019 NBA champion OG Anunoby along with their beloved young guard Miles McBride and draft capital.” — Dean Simon, The Sporting News

How Sabonis Would Fit in New York

While trading OG Anunoby would mean giving up a premier perimeter defender, the Knicks would gain an elite playmaker and interior presence in Sabonis. The 28-year-old big man is known for his exceptional passing, ranking fifth among all non-point guards with an average of 6.1 assists per game. His ability to find cutters and facilitate offense in the half-court would provide a significant boost to New York’s offensive structure.

Sabonis is also a highly efficient scorer, averaging 18.9 points per game—slightly higher than Anunoby’s 17.5 PPG—while being a dominant force on the boards. As the NBA’s leading rebounder, he could create a formidable frontcourt duo alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, giving the Knicks an interior presence they have lacked in recent years.

Unlike faster-paced teams, the Knicks operate at a more methodical tempo, which would allow Sabonis to thrive in a structured offense. His ability to play in the post, stretch the floor, and facilitate from the high post would provide the Knicks with a dynamic offensive layer.

What the Knicks Would Lose in the Deal

Parting with Anunoby would significantly impact the Knicks’ perimeter defense, as he is one of the best two-way wings in the league. McBride’s departure would also leave a gap in the team’s bench depth, forcing the Knicks to look for a new sixth man.

However, acquiring a franchise-caliber player like Sabonis could be worth the sacrifice. With Towns and Jalen Brunson already leading the charge, Sabonis would give New York a legitimate “Big Three” capable of contending in the Eastern Conference.

While this trade remains purely hypothetical, it raises an intriguing debate: Should the Knicks prioritize offensive fluidity and interior dominance over defensive stability? If the opportunity arises, it will be up to the front office to decide whether Sabonis is the missing piece to their championship puzzle.
