JUST IN: Insider Reveal Talented Star to Fill in Key Strategic Position of Need

There’s now a widely discussed prospect for the Los Angeles Chargers in this year’s draft cycle, frequently appearing in mock drafts from national analysts. With head coach Jim Harbaugh on board and the team seeking a reliable pass-catching target for quarterback Justin Herbert, Loveland’s name continues to surface. Recently, The Ringer’s Diante Lee projected Loveland to land with the Chargers in his latest mock draft.

A fresh development has now emerged regarding the star. Speaking at Michigan’s pro day, the 2023 CFP National Champion confirmed he is scheduled for a visit with the Chargers on Tuesday, marking the first publicly acknowledged top-30 visit for the team this draft season. While the Chargers’ staff is already well-informed about him, these top-30 visits offer a chance to further evaluate Harbaugh’s Michigan prospects, similar to last year when Blake Corum, Kris Jenkins, and Junior Colson all visited, with Colson later being selected in the third round.

Currently, the focus is on Colston Loveland,’s health and physical condition. Before the 2025 NFL Combine, Dr. Neal ElAttrache distributed a letter to all 32 teams detailing concerns about Loveland’s right shoulder surgery following a Type V AC joint dislocation during the 2024 college season. While Loveland attended the Combine for measurements and meetings, he chose not to participate in drills due to his January surgery, raising some concerns about his recovery timeline.

Another element to consider is the Chargers’ recent signing of tight end Tyler Conklin on a one-year, $3 million contract (with incentives up to $4.5 million). Some fans have questioned whether this move impacts the team’s draft approach at tight end, but Conklin was primarily brought in as a backup plan after the team missed out on Evan Engram. If the draft board doesn’t favor a first-round tight end selection, Conklin and Will Dissly are expected to hold down the position until a later-round pick is secured.

While Loveland’s visit does not guarantee the Chargers will select him, it provides a crucial opportunity to assess his recovery and overall potential. With Loveland projected as a possible pick at No. 22, Conklin’s signing is unlikely to deter the Chargers from drafting him. Instead, this visit serves as a vital step in determining if Loveland can address the team’s long-term tight end needs, complementing their current roster and offensive plans.
