Amid the growing uncertainty, not everyone in the organization is ready to entertain life without Morant. Rising rookie star Jaylen Wells, who made a name for himself this season, voiced unwavering support for the embattled point guard. In a guest appearance on FanDuel’s NBA show Run It Back, Wells responded with confidence when asked if he wanted Morant as a teammate going forward.
“Absolutely,” Wells said without hesitation. “I don’t know what Memphis is without Ja.”
Morant has been the face of the franchise since being selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Over the past five seasons, he has transformed the Grizzlies into a playoff-caliber team, leading them to four postseason appearances and electrifying fans with his explosive athleticism and high-octane play. One of his most notable efforts came during the 2022 playoffs when Memphis advanced to the second round before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers.
