Duke’s talented forward, who has been sidelined for the past four games due to a shoulder injury, is making significant strides toward return in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 matchup against Arizona. Head coach Jon Scheyer indicated on Wednesday that Brown’s availability for Thursday night’s game remains not exactly certain but is trending positively.
“It’s day-to-day with Maliq,” Scheyer stated. “There’s a chance he could be available tomorrow night.”
Maliq Brownsustained a dislocated shoulder during the ACC Tournament quarterfinal against Georgia Tech on March 13, an injury that forced him to miss subsequent games, including the Blue Devils’ first two NCAA Tournament victories.
Known for his exceptional defensive skills, Brown leads the team in deflections and ranks second in steals. His potential return could bolster Duke’s defense, adding depth alongside players like 7-foot-2 center Khaman Maluach and versatile inside presence Patrick Ngongba.

As the Blue Devils prepare to face the Arizona Wildcats, a team they defeated 69-55 in November, the possible addition of Brown to the lineup could provide a strategic advantage. Duke enters the Sweet 16 with a 33-3 record and a 13-game winning streak, demonstrating significant development since their early-season encounter with Arizona.
The decision regarding Brown’s participation will likely be made closer to game time, as the coaching staff continues to monitor his recovery and readiness.
