JUST IN: Colorado Avalanche Land Two Rising NHL Stars, Gear Up to Co-Host Rookie Faceoff

With the 2025 NCAA 16-team tournament field finalized, many players who are not participating have the opportunity to accept contracts and begin their professional careers. This is an ideal time for the Colorado Avalanche to go shopping and locate players to add to the Colorado Eagles’ organizational depth in the autumn, as well as to fill out a rookie tournament roster; more on that below.

As a result, Colorado signed two NHL players: goalkeeper Isak Posch and left-shot winger Cooper Gay. Both are 23 years old; therefore, they signed a regular two-year entry-level contract commencing in the 2025-26 season. Thomas Gay is a familiar face to the organization, having attended development camp in 2024 but missing ice time due to an injury.

The signing news was followed by a tip from LA Kings insider Mayors Manor, who stated that the Avalanche will host a section of the Rookie Faceoff in September, welcoming Utah and Vegas prospects. Meanwhile, the California teams are scheduled to play games in Anaheim.

Colorado was supposed to host again for the first time since the initial event in 2016, but it was discovered that they do not have adequate facility space to accommodate the whole six-team group. Fortunately, they plan to use the new South Suburban Complex rather than the Family Sports Center. There are no details on the dates, times, or how the public can access these games yet, but they should take place on the weekend of September 12-15.

Putting on the event is costly and takes a considerable amount of time and team resources. As such, it was decided that the event will be split this year. Colorado will now host the Vegas Golden Knights and Utah Hockey Club in a three-team format at South Suburban Sports Complex in Littleton.
