Blacksburg, Va. — The ACC is currently in the midst of a hiring spree, with several teams making significant moves. Georgia Tech has appointed a new defensive coordinator.

On Wednesday, Virginia Tech announced the addition of a new member to their strength and conditioning staff, appointing a former Hokie lineman as the associate director of strength and conditioning. This individual brings nearly two decades of experience in the field. Virginia Tech’s head football coach confirmed that the new hire would be joining the program in this key role. The new coach is returning to Virginia Tech, where they previously played under Coach Frank Beamer from 2002 to 2006 and also served as a graduate assistant strength coach in 2008. With a wealth of experience in strength and conditioning, the new hire also holds a master’s degree in health promotion and sport performance.
Coach Pry expressed his excitement about welcoming Baggett back to Blacksburg, emphasizing his skills as a teacher, mentor, and motivator. He believes Baggett will play a key role in helping the Hokies build on their culture of toughness and discipline.
Baggett comes to Virginia Tech after a successful career at several institutions. Most recently, he served as the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Nevada in 2022 and 2023. Before that, he spent a year at Oregon as an assistant coach and six years at the University of Maryland. During his time in Maryland, he was promoted to associate director of football strength and conditioning. Additionally, he has also worked at the University of Illinois and spent several years with EXOS in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he worked with Marine Special Operations Command on a Human Performance and Resiliency program.
In 2024, Baggett was honored with the title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, recognizing him as one of the top professionals in his field. Virginia Tech’s assistant athletic director of strength and conditioning, Jarrett Ferguson, praised Baggett’s wealth of experience, particularly his leadership skills, which are expected to have a significant impact on the team’s development.
Baggett has a diverse background, having worked with multiple teams in his career. From 2008 to 2011, he was an assistant strength coach at East Carolina University, where he contributed to the success of the 2008 and 2009 Conference USA championship football teams. He also coached baseball, which won the 2009 Conference USA title. Additionally, Baggett has experience working with various other sports programs such as volleyball, tennis, and basketball. He also had an internship with the United States Olympic Committee in 2007, working with several Olympic sports.
Baggett is married to Katie, a former All-American volleyball player at Ohio State, and they have four children: Grace, Nora, Lucy, and Colin.
