Luton Town’s hopes of a swift recovery have been dealt a major blow as head coach Matt Bloomfield confirmed that several of the club’s top-tier players are preparing to leave this summer. The confirmation comes in the wake of a devastating second consecutive relegation, which has left the Hatters reeling and their squad uncertain ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Bloomfield, who took the reins during a turbulent season, has been vocal about the challenges facing the club in the aftermath of their drop to League One. “It’s a tough pill to swallow,” he admitted during a press briefing. “Back-to-back relegations take a toll on everyone — fans, staff, and especially the players. Some of our top performers are understandably looking at their futures.”
Financial pressures are also likely to play a role in the exodus. Dropping two tiers in as many seasons has left Luton facing a significant reduction in revenue, including loss of broadcast income and sponsorship deals. As a result, the club may be forced to sell key assets to balance the books and rebuild for the long term.
Despite the looming departures, Bloomfield remains optimistic. “While it’s disappointing to see some of our top talents go, it also opens the door for fresh energy, new signings, and a chance to rebuild something special. This club has heart, and we’ll be back stronger.”
Among the players reportedly set to depart are midfield dynamo Jordan Clark, reliable center-back Tom Lockyer, versatile full-back Alfie Doughty, and top scorer Carlton Morris. Their exits will undoubtedly reshape the squad, but fans will be hoping Bloomfield can lead a successful rebuild from the ashes of a painful season.
