ESPN: Vikings Officially Confirm Blockbuster Signing of Another Physically Gifted, Familiar Star

The Minnesota Vikings continue to reshape their offensive line, adding depth and competition with their latest signing. The team announced that they have reached an agreement with a talented offensive tackle, a veteran lineman who could serve as a valuable backup or even push for playing time depending on how things unfold in training camp. While the specific terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, Skule’s addition signals the Vikings’ ongoing effort to build a more stable and reliable front line heading into the 2025 season.

Skule, a former sixth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, brings experience and versatility to the roster. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers out of Vanderbilt, he spent his first two seasons in the league as a key depth piece for the Niners. During the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, he appeared in 12 games, starting four, and proved himself as a serviceable fill-in when called upon. However, his career hit a setback in 2021 when he suffered a torn ACL during training camp, forcing him to miss the entire season.

After recovering from his injury, Skule was released by the 49ers during the 2022 preseason and later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad. He saw limited action in his first season with the Bucs, appearing in just one game, but worked his way into a more active role over the next two years. In the past two seasons, he played in all of Tampa Bay’s games, including five starts, demonstrating his ability to step in when needed. While not a household name, Skule has quietly built a reputation as a durable and flexible lineman capable of playing on either side of the offensive line.

For a team like the Vikings, which has made offensive line improvement a priority this offseason, Skule’s signing provides much-needed insurance at the tackle position. While he is unlikely to be a full-time starter, his presence ensures that Minnesota has a seasoned option in case of injuries or underperformance by the team’s primary tackles. He also offers competition during training camp, which could push some of the younger linemen to elevate their game.

The Vikings have signed veteran OT Justin Skule Skule spent the last 3 seasons with the Bucs, and he was originally selected by the 49ers in the 6th-round of the 2019 NFL

One small but fun detail for Vikings fans: Skule’s last name is pronounced like “school,” rather than “Skol”—a pronunciation that would have perfectly aligned with Minnesota’s rallying cry. Even though the coincidence didn’t pan out, his addition could still be a win for the team.

As the Vikings continue to reshape their roster for the upcoming season, Skule joins a growing list of new faces brought in to solidify the offensive line. With free agency still in progress and the NFL Draft on the horizon, there may be more moves ahead. For now, Skule will look to carve out a role in Minnesota, where his experience and perseverance could make him an important piece in the team’s offensive plans. Welcome to Minnesota, Justin!
