Done Deal: Red Sox Confirms Huge 56 million contract for a Highly Experienced Star

The Boston Red Sox have pulled off a major move, acquiring Miami Marlins ace  to bolster an already talented starting rotation, even with Walker Buehler and Kutter Crawford currently sidelined. Despite the injuries, there’s plenty of depth, and adding He gives the team another high-ceiling arm as they push toward a postseason run.

He, once expected to be the top trade target of the summer, struggled out of the gate with an 8.31 ERA across six starts, recording just 19 strikeouts in 26 innings and giving up multiple runs in each outing. Those early struggles allowed Boston to land him without parting with the core of their farm system. His track record, including a Cy Young Award just two seasons ago, and a team-friendly five-year, $56 million contract with a club option for 2027, make this a high-upside deal. A fresh start on a competitive team could help him rediscover his elite form.

While the deal may have initially been seen as a response to Buehler’s injury, the right-hander isn’t expected to miss extended time. That makes this trade more about long-term upside than short-term urgency. Alcántara likely wasn’t going to be moved until closer to the July 31 deadline, but Boston jumped at the opportunity to add a front-line arm without overpaying. The Red Sox addressed a need while staying mindful of their bigger goals.
