DONE DEAL: Chargers Tied to Blockbuster Trade for Pro Bowl TE to Fix Struggling Offense

The Los Angeles Chargers have had one of the most puzzling and underwhelming offseasons in the NFL this year. Entering the offseason, their most glaring needs were at wide receiver and tight end—positions that demanded immediate and substantial upgrades. Despite this, the Chargers have made only modest efforts to address these deficiencies. Rookie standout Ladd McConkey was a bright spot, quickly becoming a favorite target and demonstrating the makings of a future star. Unfortunately, aside from McConkey, the rest of the Chargers’ receiving corps provided minimal impact throughout the season.

Instead of making aggressive moves to secure proven offensive weapons, the Chargers have settled for short-term fixes that barely scratch the surface of their roster issues. Their most high-profile additions at wide receiver and tight end have been underwhelming. Mike Williams, a familiar face from his time with the Chargers and most recently with Pittsburgh, returned despite showing significant signs of decline last season. Tyler Conklin, brought in at tight end, is a solid and consistent performer but hardly the kind of dynamic playmaker that could transform the Chargers’ offense.

For months, fans have been left wondering when—or if—the team would make a bold move to upgrade its pass-catching group. Finally, Bleacher Report offered a possible answer. Analyst Moe Moton recently suggested a series of trade packages that could provide the offensive jolt the Chargers so desperately need. Among the featured players was Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, whose future in Baltimore has become uncertain following a costly drop in their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.

What Mike Williams' Release Means for the Chargers

Although Ravens head coach John Harbaugh publicly expressed confidence in Andrews’ return, general manager Eric DeCosta’s recent comments were far less definitive, fueling speculation that Andrews could be on the move. Moton included the Chargers as one of the top five potential landing spots and proposed a trade package consisting of a 2025 fourth-round pick and offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer.

What Could Baltimore Ravens Get for Mark Andrews?

From the Chargers’ perspective, that would be an incredible value. Andrews is a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the league’s top tight ends when healthy. He’s also entering the final year of his contract, meaning the Chargers wouldn’t be tied to a long-term financial commitment—perfect for a franchise that has shown a clear reluctance to spend big this offseason.

Given how thin the Chargers are at tight end and how little they’ve done to strengthen their offensive arsenal, acquiring Andrews would be a game-changing move. It would provide quarterback Justin Herbert with a reliable, high-level target and potentially open up the field for McConkey and the rest of the offense.

Still, whether the Chargers are actually willing to pull the trigger on a deal remains to be seen. Their offseason so far suggests a preference for frugality and short-term patchwork over bold investments. But for a team trying to compete in an AFC loaded with offensive firepower, taking a swing at a player like Andrews might be the boost they need to stay competitive. And for the cost being suggested, it’s an opportunity the Chargers would be wise to consider seriously.
