In a quiet but surprising roster shake-up, the Minnesota Vikings have officially cut bait with a cornerback they once hoped would bolster their secondary.
On Monday, the Vikings waived Nahshon Wright, the former third-round pick they acquired in a training camp trade with the Dallas Cowboys just last summer. The move was revealed via the league’s official transaction wire.
Wright, originally drafted by Dallas in 2021, was traded to Minnesota in exchange for former second-rounder Andrew Booth — a swap that now appears to have flopped for both franchises. The Cowboys ended up releasing Booth in November, and now Minnesota has followed suit by letting go of Wright.
In his brief time with the Vikings, Wright barely made a dent. He appeared in just one game this past season — the December 1st matchup against the Arizona Cardinals — where he logged 15 snaps on special teams and zero on defense.
The 6’4”, 200-pound Oregon State alum has played in 33 NFL games over four seasons, tallying 37 tackles, one pick, and five passes defensed. But his career momentum seems to be slipping, and now he’s back on the market.
With both players from the trade now off NFL rosters, this deal may go down as a lose-lose. Stay tuned to see if Wright gets a second chance elsewhere — or if this marks the end of the road for the once-promising prospect.
