BREAKING: Reds Finalize Blockbuster Trade, Sending $50 Million Star Packing

The Cincinnati Reds made important offseason moves, beginning with the appointment of renowned manager Terry Francona. They will also benefit from the return of key players Matt McLain and Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who were out due to injuries. Cincinnati also improved their lineup by acquiring Gavin Lux, Austin Hays, and Brady Singer.

Earlier this winter, the Reds allegedly considered a trade for Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr., but talks fell through. They may reconsider their pursuit of Robert as the season progresses. Meanwhile, utility player Spencer Steer may open the 2025 season on the disabled list following a cortisone treatment for persistent shoulder discomfort. If he is unavailable, the Reds will have a noticeable vacancy in their lineup—one.

If he is absent, the Reds will have a conspicuous hole in their lineup, which Robert might fill in a big way. Steer is expected to be a valuable right-handed bat in the outfield while also giving infield versatility, whereas Robert would immediately become Cincinnati’s best right-handed hitting outfielder.

Landing Robert would be a huge struggle because Chicago’s asking price is high. Any prospective trade would most likely revolve on top Reds prospect Edwin Arroyo, with pitching prospects Chase Petty, Connor Phillips, and Julian Aguiar also under consideration. In order to complete a deal, Cincinnati may have to part with pitchers Graham Ashcraft or Andrew Abbott. Given the hefty cost, few teams have actively targeted Robert, and it’s questionable whether the Reds will satisfy the White Sox’s expectations. Still, Robert would be an excellent addition to Cincinnati’s squad, making him a player to monitor as the season approaches.
