BREAKING: Patriots Confirm Another Blockbuster Deal for Top-Tier Star

The New England Patriots took a step toward bolstering their offensive line depth on Friday with the addition of a veteran presence.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Patriots are to sign versatile offensive lineman to a one-year contract. The move isn’t a blockbuster, but it addresses a key need as New England looks to stabilize its front five heading into the 2024 season.

The 31yr star, brings valuable experience and versatility to the Patriots’ roster. Over his eight-year career, he has started 62 games while playing for the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and most recently, the New York Jets. His ability to line up at all three interior positions—left guard, center, and right guard—makes him a useful addition to an offensive line that has been riddled with injuries and inconsistency. During his time with the Jets, Schweitzer worked under current Patriots wide receiver coach Todd Downing, adding a layer of familiarity to his transition.

New England still has plenty of work to do in solidifying the offensive line, particularly following the departure of longtime center David Andrews. Wes Schweitzer has experience at center, having stepped into the role for Washington in 2022, and could be in the mix to compete with Ben Brown and Cole Strange for snaps in the interior. While not a long-term solution, he provides immediate depth and a reliable veteran presence in a unit that struggled to protect quarterbacks and establish a strong running game last season.

The Patriots are expected to continue making moves to address the offensive line this offseason, whether through free agency or the draft. While Schweitzer’s signing won’t make national headlines, it’s a low-risk addition that could pay dividends in providing stability and insurance for a critical position group.
