Memphis Grizzlies rookie forward suffered a broken right wrist after a scary fall during Tuesday’s game in Charlotte, his agent told ESPN. Despite the injury, Wells was conscious and had full movement in all limbs.
The incident occurred in the second quarter as Wells went up for a dunk. Charlotte Hornets guard KJ Simpson fouled him from underneath, causing Wells to crash face-first onto the court. Medical staff rushed in as players from both teams knelt in concern.
Wells was immobilized and stretchered off the floor, leading to a 23-minute game delay. Officials upgraded Simpson’s foul to a flagrant-2, resulting in his ejection. Memphis went on to win the game 124-100.

The dunk had extended the Grizzlies’ lead to 62-44 with just over a minute left in the half. Desmond Bane took the technical free throw in Wells’ place, and Memphis kept possession.
Selected 39th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Wells had logged three points, five rebounds, and two assists in 11 minutes before his exit. The 21-year-old Washington State alum has been among the top rookies this season, averaging 10.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists over 78 games (73 starts).
