After being eliminated in the second round by the New York Knicks, the Boston Celtics will now turn their attention to what could be a very active offseason.
The team faces several important decisions this summer as they look to reduce their payroll. Among the players who could potentially be on the move are Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, though they are not the only ones the Celtics must evaluate.
Forward Torrey Craig, signed by Boston in February, is one of the team’s upcoming free agents. He recently shared his thoughts as he heads into free agency.
Along with possible roster changes, there are concerns about the Celtics’ outlook for next season. Star player Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles injury during the series against New York, and his recovery timeline remains uncertain. There’s even a chance he could miss the entire season.
Despite this setback, the Celtics still boast a strong roster. Craig, for one, remains optimistic about the team’s chances moving forward, as reported by Noa Dalzell of CelticsBlog.
“It’s a great group of guys,” Craig said. “Obviously, the situation matters, but even without JT, I believe this team can still compete for a championship. They’re talented—we’d just have to play a little differently. But I truly believe in this group.”
Though Craig played in only 17 regular season games and had a limited playoff role, he made an impact with his energy and playing style. While re-signing him may not be Boston’s top priority, it could still be a smart move, especially if the team intends to stay competitive next season. At 34, Craig brings experience and value, and his free agency will be worth watching in the months ahead.
