As discussions about the 2025 NFL Draft continue, much has been said about the perceived weakness of this year’s quarterback class. Speculation has swirled that defensive standouts like Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter could surpass all quarterbacks on draft boards. However, as history has shown, quarterbacks often rise to the top, and it now appears that a signal-caller is once again poised to be the No. 1 overall pick.
According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, shared via his Instagram account on Monday, March 17, that quarterback is expected to be from the Miami Hurricanes. Schefter noted on NFL Live, “It certainly seems like there’s a mounting consensus that Cam Ward is going to be the No. 1 pick.”
The Tennessee Titans currently own the top selection in the draft and are in need of a franchise quarterback. However, their position at No. 1 is not necessarily set in stone. The Titans could explore trade possibilities with teams like the Cleveland Browns (No. 2), New York Giants (No. 3), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6), or New York Jets (No. 7). By trading down, Tennessee could still secure a premier prospect while acquiring an additional first-round pick in a future draft.
Both the Raiders and the Jets have made short-term moves at quarterback in recent days. Las Vegas acquired Geno Smith in a trade, while New York signed Justin Fields. Despite these additions, either team could still be tempted to move up for Ward if they view him as a long-term answer at the position.
Meanwhile, the Giants have made a serious push for Aaron Rodgers and are waiting for the four-time MVP’s decision. Rodgers is reportedly weighing offers from New York, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Minnesota Vikings. Even if the Giants land Rodgers, he would likely serve as a short-term solution, leaving Ward as a strong option for their future.

Cleveland, on the other hand, recently traded with the Philadelphia Eagles for Kenny Pickett. However, with Deshaun Watson’s health remaining a major question mark, the Browns are still in dire need of quarterback stability. Reports suggest Cleveland is desperate for a long-term answer under center and may be willing to offer a significant draft package to move up one spot and secure their preferred prospect.
As the draft approaches, speculation will continue to swirl, but momentum is building around Cam Ward as the potential No. 1 overall selection. Whether Tennessee keeps the top pick or another team trades up, Ward’s stock appears to be on the rise.
