BREAKING: Colorado Avalanche Confirm Signing of Another Fans-Favorite Standout Veteran in Unexpected Blockbuster Move

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club has officially secured a defenseman on a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the organization through the 2026-27 season.

At 27 years old, he has been a key presence on the blue line for the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, during the 2024-25 campaign. In 51 games, he has registered 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists), placing him among the team’s top defensemen in both points and assists. Additionally, his impressive +32 rating currently leads all skaters in the AHL, marking a career-best for the blueliner.

This star is none other than Wyatt Aamodt. A native of Hermantown, Minn., Aamodt has spent his entire professional career within the Avalanche organization after signing with the team on April 12, 2022. Over four AHL seasons (2021-25), he has accumulated 45 points (12 goals, 33 assists) and played a vital role for the Eagles. His best statistical season came in 2022-23 when he notched career-highs in assists (15) and total points (18), highlighted by his first-ever game-winning goal on November 19, 2022, against Coachella Valley. Aamodt has also appeared in 18 Calder Cup Playoff games, contributing an assist.

Before transitioning to the professional level, the 6-foot, 201-pound defenseman played four years at Minnesota State University (Mankato) from 2018-22. As a senior captain, he posted personal bests in goals (6), assists (6), and plus/minus (+21) while helping the Mavericks capture the Mason Cup (CCHA Championship). His collegiate career also included a WCHA championship win as a freshman in 2018-19.

Prior to college, Aamodt developed his game in the USHL, suiting up for the Chicago Steel and Lincoln Stars from 2015-18. In 115 total appearances, he recorded 46 points (5 goals, 41 assists), including a standout 2016-17 season where he tallied 19 points (1 goal, 18 assists) and played a key role in helping Chicago claim the USHL Clark Cup championship.

With Aamodt continuing to excel at the AHL level, this extension reinforces the Avalanche’s commitment to maintaining strong defensive depth within the organization.
