BREAKING: Chicago Locks Down Star CB in Historic $40M Contract

The Chicago Bears have already made waves in free agency—and with three picks in the top 41 of the upcoming NFL Draft, they’re far from done. But between the frenzy of March and the anticipation of April’s big event, the Bears quietly pulled off a move with major long-term implications.

On Sunday, April 13, Chicago signed cornerback Kyler Gordon to a historic contract extension. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears agreed to a three-year, $40 million deal with Gordon, including $31.25 million guaranteed. The new contract makes him the highest-paid slot cornerback in the NFL and locks him in through the 2028 season.

Securing Gordon was no spur-of-the-moment decision. Bears GM Ryan Poles hinted earlier this offseason that keeping Gordon in Chicago was high on the team’s priority list. “Kyler is someone we definitely see as part of our future,” Poles said two weeks ago, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. “Exactly when it gets done, we’ll see—but it’s a priority.”

The 25-year-old Gordon, a former second-round pick (No. 39 overall in 2022 out of Washington), has been a steady force in the Bears’ secondary. Over 42 games (34 starts), he’s racked up 17 pass breakups, nine tackles for loss, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 1.5 sacks.

As the Bears gear up for a pivotal draft, they’ve already locked in a key piece of their defense’s future.
