BREAKING: Avalanche’s $49M Star Returns, Ignites Team’s Playoff Push

After nearly two months sidelined by a lower-body injury, the star made a triumphant return to the Colorado Avalanche lineup, contributing significantly to a decisive 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. In his first game since December 31, Nichushkin logged 17:46 of ice time and recorded five shots on goal, showcasing his readiness to impact the team’s performance as they aim to build momentum in the upcoming games.

The forward hopes to reenergize an Avalanche offense that has struggled, scoring only two goals in consecutive losses since returning from the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off competition.

Nichushkin last played on December 31, so this game against the New Jersey Devils marks his long-awaited return.

“You can’t underestimate his value to this team,” defenseman Cale Makar said after the morning practice. “It’s a tremendous lift for us. Hopefully, he’s back in great form—he’s looked good out there.”

Head coach Jared Bednar indicated that Nichushkin’s ice time will not be limited, and he will also participate to special teams.

Prior to his injury, the 29-year-old attacker has 11 goals and six assists in 21 games. He had already missed the first 17 games of the season due to a suspension in May, when he was sent to Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

With Nichushkin in the lineup, Colorado’s record is 209-74-27.

“When it comes to power forwards, he’s arguably the best in the world,” forward Logan O’Connor stated. “Having his size and skill back in the lineup is a huge asset for us.”

At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Nichushkin can provide a muscular presence in front of the net, an area where Colorado has struggled, particularly in the absence of captain Gabriel Landeskog, who has not played since the team’s Stanley Cup win in 2022 due to a recurring knee ailment.

“He brings so much with his size and strength,” said forward Jonathan Drouin. “He’s a force, and we need him.”
