BLOCKBUSTER UPDATE: After DK Metcalf Trade, Seahawks Tied to $39M WR Blockbuster Trade

The Seattle Seahawks are reshaping their offense in the wake of trading away star wide receiver DK Metcalf this offseason. As the 2025 NFL regular season approaches, attention has shifted toward the possibility of Seattle signing former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, a move that could add depth and veteran presence to their receiving corps.

According to Pro Football Focus, he is among the most intriguing names still available in free agency, and the Seahawks have been identified as a potential destination. With a hole to fill in their wide receiver unit, he could provide immediate value as a strong rotational option.

Gabe Davis’ NFL Journey: From Buffalo to Free Agency

Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Gabe Davis began his professional career with the Buffalo Bills. As a product of UCF, Davis earned a reputation for big-play potential and physicality, becoming a red zone favorite for quarterback Josh Allen. Despite flashes of brilliance — including a memorable four-touchdown playoff game — Davis struggled with consistency and eventually fell out of favor in Buffalo.

WR Gabe Davis released by Jaguars — should the New York Giants be interested?

Seeking a fresh start, Davis signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, hoping to thrive in a new environment. However, injuries derailed that opportunity. A torn meniscus ended his season prematurely in November, sidelining him and limiting his impact. Former head coach Doug Pederson announced the injury, and Davis was soon lost for the remainder of the year.

With Jacksonville undergoing a complete front-office and coaching overhaul — including the hiring of Liam Coen and the selection of Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. in the 2025 NFL Draft — the Jaguars opted to part ways with Davis as they began retooling their receiving group.

Seattle’s Offensive Puzzle: Where Davis Fits In

Despite their acquisition of veteran Cooper Kupp, the Seahawks remain thin at wide receiver. Behind Kupp and rising talent Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the only notable depth piece, and he’s more of a vertical threat than a possession receiver. Adding Davis would provide quarterback Geno Smith (or a potential new starter) with a more reliable target who can operate in intermediate zones and win contested catches.

With Davis still on the market and looking for a team where he can both contribute and revive his career, Seattle presents a potentially ideal landing spot.

Davis Drawing Interest Beyond Seattle: Chargers and Chiefs in the Mix

Seattle won’t be the only team eyeing Davis. The Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs are also possible suitors, both for different reasons.

Los Angeles Chargers: Searching for Help for Herbert

The Chargers have had a turbulent offseason and are desperate to strengthen their receiving corps around franchise quarterback Justin Herbert. While they signed Mike Williams, questions remain about his health and consistency. With Quentin Johnston underperforming and 2025 draft pick Tre Harris still unproven, LA may need another experienced target.

Davis could step in as a No. 2 or 3 option and provide much-needed depth, route running, and red zone presence. Though there’s been talk of reuniting with veteran Keenan Allen, the Chargers released him for a reason — age and declining productivity. Davis would represent a fresher and potentially more explosive alternative.

Kansas City Chiefs: Reinforcing a Championship-Caliber Offense

If Davis is prioritizing the chance to compete for a Super Bowl, there may be no better fit than the Kansas City Chiefs. The reigning champions already have a strong core in wideouts Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Marquise Brown, but they could benefit from Davis’ experience and depth.

Even if he isn’t a starter, Davis would bring value as a rotational receiver capable of making key plays and helping to stretch the defense. He would likely serve as a fourth option, but one who could contribute in crucial moments and help take pressure off the top targets.

What’s Next for Gabe Davis?

At this stage in his career, Gabe Davis is looking for the right mix of opportunity, fit, and possibly a chance to win. Whether he chooses to help rebuild a team like Seattle, revive the Chargers’ offensive unit, or pursue a ring with the Chiefs, Davis still offers upside for the right system. As the offseason progresses, his landing spot will be one of the key storylines to watch.
