In a recent episode of The Brotherhood Podcast, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer shared a lighthearted exchange involving standout freshman Cooper Flagg. During a fan Q&A segment hosted by Justin Robinson, Flagg submitted a playful question: “How amazing was it to coach Cooper Flagg?” Scheyer responded with a chuckle, recalling their post-practice games of H-O-R-S-E.
“I don’t know how amazing I want to say it was,” Scheyer joked. “But it was amazing beating him in H-O-R-S-E. Yeah. Every day after practice.”
Transitioning to a more serious tone, Scheyer praised Flagg’s contributions throughout the season.
“Cooper was incredible this year,” he said. “He showed up every day, was an incredible teammate, always came with great energy, and then I think what he did on the court speaks for itself.”
Flagg’s freshman year at Duke was nothing short of remarkable. He led the team in five major statistical categories and played a pivotal role in propelling the Blue Devils to the Final Four. In the semifinal matchup against the Houston Cougars, Flagg delivered a stellar performance with 27 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. However, Duke ultimately fell short, losing 70–67 after a late-game surge by Houston .
Beyond his on-court achievements, Flagg made headlines off the court as well. He reportedly earned an astounding $28 million through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals during his lone season at Duke, securing major endorsements with New Balance and Fanatics .
As Flagg prepares for the next chapter in his basketball journey, he is widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. His exceptional talent, combined with his marketability, positions him as one of the most anticipated prospects in recent memory.
