Eddie Murphy returned to the set to film new scenes for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, alongside Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Filming began in August 2022 and ended in early 2023, therefore it’s likely that the film is being reshot or that the stars are filming promotional footage.

Netflix released the first trailer for the sequel last month, indicating that it would be released sometime this summer, though no particular date has yet been confirmed.

Murphy wore a new Detroit Lions jacket, similar to the one worn by his character Axel Foley throughout the popular film franchise.

He was photographed resting against a cherry red BMW while wearing light blue denim and white Adidas sneakers.

Another photo showed him getting into a van, wearing the same jeans and sneakers but with a navy blue coat and a red shirt.

His co-star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was seen wearing a white striped dress shirt and tie under a black fur-lined coat.

There is currently no indication that these potential reshoots will influence the intended Summer 2024 release date.

A fourth Beverly Hills Cop film has been rumored for decades, with numerous writers and directors coming and going.

In December, the first picture marks its 40th anniversary, in which Detroit detective Axel Foley (Murphy) travels from Detroit to Beverly Hills to uncover the death of his best buddy.

The original was a huge hit, earning $234.7 million from a $13 million budget and an additional $81.6 million from overseas markets for a total of $316.3 million globally.

When adjusted for inflation, the movie would be worth $693.6 million today, surpassing last year’s highest-grossing film, Barbie ($636.2 million).

For over two decades, the first Beverly Hills Cop was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, earning $234.7 million, until The Matrix Reloaded surpassed it in 2003.

The successful initial entry prompted the 1987 sequel Beverly Hills Cop II, which grossed a lower $153.6 million domestically but a higher $146.3 million in other countries, totaling $299.9 million globally.

The third picture, Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), failed at the box office, grossing $42.6 million domestically and $76.5 million internationally, for a total of $119.2 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the idea underwent various iterations, with Brett Ratner (Tower Heist) attached to direct at one time.

The idea then switched from a movie sequel to a CBS TV series in 2011, with Axel Foley’s son Aaron (Brandon T. Jackson) as a rookie cop in the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Murphy was slated to executive produce and play Axel, and while a pilot episode was filmed, CBS eventually decided not to bring it to series.

Ratner returned to direct in late 2013, but neither that film nor another with filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) went into production.

While they were attached for six years, El Arbi and Fallah were replaced by Mark Molloy in April 2022, and filming began in August 2022.

Molloy directs based on a scenario by Will Beall (Aquaman), Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), and Kevin Etten (Ghosted).
