According to FootMercato, Jose Mourinho is willing to let Diego Llorente leave AS Roma and join PSG this month as the club looks to sign the Leeds loanee.

On their website (9 January), the French news agency reports that the Parisian club has identified Llorente as a target for central defense after an injury to Milan Skriniar, with former Spain national team coach Luis Enrique an admirer of his profile.

However, because the player is on loan at Roma, any trade would require their approval to end it early, something Mourinho is willing to provide, according to the source.

“According to our information, the capital club is also looking towards AS Roma where a certain Diego Llorente plays,” they stated in their report.

“The 30-year-old Spaniard, who is linked to Leeds until 2026, has been on loan to the Giallorossi since January 2023.” José Mourinho’s former Real Sociedad player has started 16 games in Serie A this season.

“However, the Special One would not be against the idea of parting with it this winter.”

There was no shock.

It’s no surprise that Mourinho is happy to let Llorente leave because, very simply, he’s worthless and not worth the trouble.

Leeds handed him a new contract to protect his value, then let him leave on loan, only to have that loan extended again after relegation because he couldn’t benefit the team in the long run.

The same can be said about Roma in this case, despite his numerous starts this season, and they will be aware that he is easily replaced. It will save them money on wages, reclaim a loan space for their team, and allow them to work during this window.

PSG will receive a player in the near term who the manager knows and trusts, which is essentially a cut-price contract due to their money, so it benefits everyone. L’Equipe describes it as a “surprise” agreement.

It’s one to keep an eye on, but it’s obviously headed in the right direction, and Roma will not be the reason it doesn’t happen.
