The trade and free agency period is officially a week away as the 2024 season comes to a close, with AFL clubs ramping up their efforts to add to their lists for next year.

New targets for Essendon have emerged, while Collingwood have clarified a pair of rumours surrounding their list plans.

It has been a busy week for both South Australian sides, with trade requests and free agency ventures confirmed while plenty of trade speculation continues.

Here’s a wrap-up of the trade and free agency news from the past week.

Essendon eyeing Hawks midfielder, Eagles backman

The Bombers have reportedly turned their attention to a pair of new targets, with Hawthorn midfielder Finn Maginness and West Coast free agent Josh Rotham linked to Essendon.

Maginness is contracted for another 12 months at the Hawks and would need to be traded to Essendon, who are said to be keen on some outside run, per AFL.com.au.

Rotham is also a player of interest for Essendon, with the medium-sized Eagles backman yet to cement his future for 2025 and eligible to move to a club of his choosing as an unrestricted free agent.

Houston, Soldo officially request trades

Port Adelaide have confirmed senior pair Daniel Houston and Ivan Soldo have requested trades back to Victoria.

Houston has long been linked to a move to his home state despite having several years to run on his contract.
