OXNARD, California – Today was a momentous day at Dallas Cowboys training camp. Jerry Jones conducted his regular sit-down interview with local journalists.
There was also huge news on the pitch, with a crucial player going down.
Jones, love him or hate him, has been the most influential man in DFW sports for almost 30 years. And at 81, he shows no signs of slowing down.
Jones stated that the idea of retiring in any form or fashion never entered his mind. He is more eager than he has ever been about the next season.
But many of his fans aren’t as enthusiastic.
The Cowboys have not reached the conference championship game in 28 years.
Following last year’s playoff debacle, Jones is now grappling with contract concerns.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is in the final year of his contract, and there has been no word on a new one.
CeeDee Lamb, a wide receiver, continues to hold out. However, Jones expressed confidence that Lamb will sign an extension.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys suffered their first big injury of camp on Sunday.
Sam Williams, an edge rusher, went down during a non-contact practice.
According to rumors, he has a torn ACL in his left knee, which means he is out for the year.
It’s a disappointing development for the talented young guy.
Williams was looking forward to having even more opportunities to contribute in his third NFL season.
