The Orlando Pirates have released two goalkeepers, leaving a vacancy in that position. Last season, they targeted a Mamelodi Sundowns standout.

The Orlando Pirates have finally arrived in Spain, where they are set to ramp up their pre-season ahead of the new season.

Pirates are in Spain for the second pre-season in a row, following a successful spell the previous time around.

With seven players released so far this window, the Pirates will look very different. Souiabou Marou and Fortune Makaringe were the first two to make way. They were followed by Siyabonga Mpontshane, Richard Ofori, Kermit Erasmus, and Thabang Monare. The most recent player to go was fan favorite Vincent Pule.

The Pirates released two goalkeepers.
The list includes two goalkeepers, which implies they will need to sign at least one. Last season’s main subject was Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse. According to accounts, the ship has now securely sailed, and pirates are looking elsewhere.

“There is no move to Orlando Pirates that is being considered for Mamelodi Sundowns keeper Reyaad Pieterse in this winter transfer window, Siya sources have indicated.” I wrote Soccer-Laduma.

The source goes on to explain how the Pirates have moved on from Pieterse.

“Despite the departure of two players (Mpontshane and Ofori), Pirates still have two good goalkeepers in Sipho Chaine and (Melusi) Buthelezi, who have been playing. Also, there are good youths that have come through.

ARE YOU NO LONGER INTERESTED IN PIETERSE?
Pirates are also extensively linked with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Those connections have also faded, with the club clearly trusting their present goalkeeping staff. They already have two players that consider themselves number one: Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelelzi. Furthermore, Siphamanadla Gumede, who returns from loan, hopes to impress Jose Riveiro throughout pre-season.

Having said that, there appears to be no room for Pieterse at Pirates. maBhakaniya, does your club require another goalkeeper? Please feel free to remark below.
