This year, we will continue our X-factors series for Dallas Cowboys opponents. Today, we look at the Baltimore Ravens. Since its beginning in the mid-1990s, the Ravens have been a model of consistency, winning two Super Bowls with some of the most decorated NFL players of the 2000s. However, in recent years, Baltimore has not met expectations. Last season, the Ravens claimed the AFC’s top seed and a first-round bye, but were defeated at home by the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs.
The Ravens are likely the only team that can match the Cowboys’ postseason pressure to produce in the playoffs, with all of the blame falling on quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson has a large contract and a well-rounded roster. The two-time MVP has largely avoided the Super Bowl. Looking beyond the surface, the Baltimore Ravens have several under-the-radar threats to cause the Cowboys issues.
Isaiah Likely is a player who fans should be familiar with. Despite being a backup to All-Pro Mark Andrews, Likely is making a name for himself in the Ravens offense. Likely was inserted into the starting lineup in week 11 of last season after Andrews’ ankle injury, and he struck an instant connection with Lamar Jackson, totaling 21 receptions for 322 yards and five touchdowns in the final six games.
The converted wide receiver from Coastal Carolina possesses exceptional body control and balance for his size, and despite his 4.83 forty-yard sprint performance, he can separate. He’s a mismatch nightmare with a potentially stronger athletic profile than his tight-end rival, Andrews. In a very limited sample size, Likely ranked sixth among tight ends in target separation (2.28 yards per target) and second in reception length (13.7 yards per reception).
