According to reports, Luton Town have joined Nottingham Forest and a slew of other European clubs in the hunt for Young Boys midfielder Cheikh Niasse.
In the first stages of the 2023-24 season, the 23-year-old has played in all six of his side’s group-stage matches in the Champions League for the Swiss outfit.

Niasse has also been a regular for Young Boys in the Swiss Super League this season, appearing in 13 games and contributing one assist from a defensive-midfield position.

The Senegalese made seven appearances for former club Lille in France before signing a £900,000 deal with Young Boys in early 2022.

According to SportItalia, Premier League newcomers Luton are interested in signing Niasse during the January transfer window.

According to the report, the Hatters are interested in the midfielder ahead of the new year, with fellow English club Nottingham Forest also keeping an eye on him.

However, Luton and the Tricky Trees are not alone in their admiration for Niasse, with Cadiz and title contender Girona also interested.

Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt of the Bundesliga, as well as Lyon of Ligue 1, are said to be interested in the 23-year-old.

Young Boys are reportedly aware of the interest Niasse is generating ahead of the January transfer window, with Raphael Wicky’s side setting a high asking price for the player.

The Swiss champions are thought to want between €10 million (£8.7 million) and €15 million (£13 million) for the midfielder, who played all but five minutes of his team’s Champions League campaign.

Rob Edwards’ side are said to be planning a midfield reshuffle in the new year, with the Hatters reportedly considering terminating Albert Sambi Lokonga’s loan deal from Arsenal.

Due to a serious hamstring injury, the one-time Belgium international has only played four Premier League games this season, and Luton Town believe his loan spot in the squad could be used more effectively.

If Marvelous Nakamba is unable to play, Lokonga could retain his place in the engine room alongside ex-Chelsea man Ross Barkley for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle visit on Saturday afternoon.
