Giannis Antetokounmpo gives the Milwaukee Bucks a window of opportunity. Occasionally, in order to capitalize on a window, competitors must exchange recognizable parts for enhancements. The Bucks can do this, for example, by trading Khris Middleton.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report outlined the reasons why the Bucks may want to sever their relationship with Middleton.
Over the past few seasons, Khris Middleton has struggled with injuries. The 32-year-old, who was an All-Star as recently as 2021–22, has only participated in 76 games over the previous two seasons while averaging a respectable 14.9 points on 34.9 percent shooting from three, according to a piece by Swartz on March 18.
Due to past trades, the Bucks are currently short on assets. For this reason, Swartz thinks their best chance of creating a stir in the East is to trade Middleton.
“Sending Middleton and picks to another team for an upgrade on the wing may be necessary to catch the Boston Celtics in the East.”
Middleton has a three-year, $93 million contract, with the first year completed. As Swartz hinted at, if the Bucks placed him on the trade market, his injury history might reduce his trade value.
On March 17, Middleton returned to action against the Phoenix Suns following a 16-game absence. After being cleared to play by the Bucks, Middleton expressed how frustrating the healing process has been.
According to Eric Nehm of The Athletic, Middleton told reporters, “I mean, (I) just feel good enough to play at this point.” “It just takes time when you have an ankle sprain as bad as I did. I’ve been frustrated sitting out for so long.” It takes a little longer sometimes than others, but I’m glad to be back.
