NEWS NOW: Kevin Durant and Mike Budenholzer of the Suns give Phoenix a hard reality check following the Nuggets’ defeat.

Following the Phoenix Suns’ humiliating 117-90 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday, head coach Mike Budenholzer and Kevin Durant discussed the team’s displeasure and the reasons behind their poor play.

“Every loss hurts, we didn’t play well, so they all hurt,” Mike Budenholzer said, via Duan Rankin of AZCentral. “… Yeah the third quarters have not been good for us. We gotta find a way to be better in the third quarters. Jokic came out, you know it felt like they went to him two or three straight times, and they were able to get buckets and we weren’t able to answer. So we didn’t get any stops. And then we just, we gotta find a way to be better in the third. … Tonight’s tough. I can’t, you know, we all gotta find a way to be better. We all gotta look, and you know find a way to play better. Find a way to compete for longer for more of the 48 minutes. We’re a long ways away from where we can be.”

Perhaps the most significant factor in the outcome was the Nuggets’ 45-28 third-quarter scoring advantage over the Suns. Durant talked about how the Suns were in serious trouble during the first part of the third quarter.

We’re all annoyed. According to Rankin, Kevin Durant stated, “I think we can play much better.” We seem to have been playing sometimes rather than regularly. A great way to close off the first half, and a terrible way to begin the second. You lose games because of those kinds of things. Those bursts of two, three, or four minutes during which you simply don’t play well.
