The Michigan football team is preparing to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Dec. 31 Reliaquest Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Wolverines’ matchup against the Tide is a reprisal of their 2024 Rose Bowl matchup which was won 27-20 by Michigan on New Year’s Day. On Tuesday, Michigan insider Sam Webb reported that coach Sherrone Moore’s team is expecting one of its top tacklers to return for the 2025-2026 season, a former Maryland Terrapins star who could help lead the Wolverines back to the college football landscape’s promised land. Webb said that Barham is expected back with Michigan next season after transferring in this past offseason. He is also expected to shift to the role of EDGE rusher after playing this past season at numerous different linebacker positions. Barham had 65 tackles including four for loss and two pass break-ups in 2024-2025. He is expected to team with Derrick Moore and TJ Guy, two holdovers from this past season’s defense who could continue to make the Wolverines’ front seven one of the strongest in the country. Michigan ranked 14th nationally in total defense this season, giving up a shade under 311 total yards per game. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s unit achieved the feat despite being teamed up with an offense that ranked near the bottom of Division-I football for most of the season and at the end of the season. If the Wolverines can get a better performance from their offense next season and Barham, Moore and the rest of the defense hold down the fort, Michigan could find itself back in championship contention yet again.
