Swans get Van Loon in a four-way trade
The Swans secured the Essendon defender in a four-club trade on Wednesday.
The Sydney Swans have received Essendon defender Ash Van Loon and draft pick 51, in a trade with the Port Adelaide Football Club who receive defender Ella Heads.
In a complicated four-club trade which involved the Swans, Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon, all four clubs received picks in the upcoming AFLW National Draft.
Heads, a QBE Sydney Swans Academy athlete, played 33 AFLW games in the red and white since making her debut in 2022.
AFLW Senior Coach Scott Gowans thanked Heads for her service to the club.
“Ella was a QBE Academy graduate and foundation AFLW Swans player,” Gowans said.
“She played an important role in the establishment of our team, and while we are disappointed to lose Ella, we respect her decision for a change and sincerely thank her for her contribution.”
In exchange, the Sydney Swans receive Essendon’s Ash Van Loon.
Van Loon has played 26 matches for Essendon’s AFLW team having made her debut in 2022.
