Yannick Bolasie was among many who praised Willy Gnonto on social media after the Leeds United winger’s performance in Friday’s win over Bristol City.

With Daniel James ailing, Willy Gnonto earned a rare Championship start this season. The Italian has unable to recapture his form from his initial burst into the first squad last season.

But it was the 20-year-old who scored a huge goal at Ashton Gate. Leeds were largely dominating over the Robins. However, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter were rejected in front of the net.

But when Junior Firpo’s pass found its way through to Gnonto thanks to a touch from Patrick Bamford at the opening of the second half, the forward was able to send the goalie the wrong way and score.

Gnonto made it plain how important the objective was to him. And it might be a huge goal in the promotion battle, with Daniel Farke’s side failing to expand their lead at any point.

Following the game, the youngster received praise on Instagram.

Forward ready to step up in the promotion race.
It would be a huge boost for Leeds if Gnonto regained his best form. The promotion race has heated up to the point where no team appears to be able to slip up.

Obviously, James and Summerville have been two of our most valuable players this season. As a result, it will be difficult for players such as Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony to establish themselves in the starting lineup consistently.

However, it was Gnonto who scored the winning goal on Friday night. And some of his sprinting should give Farke confidence that he can step up while James is absent.

The fact that Leeds has so many game changers in its ranks is surely a positive sign. And hopefully, the best of Gnonto is yet to come this season.

Daniel Farke believes that JWales’ takeover of Leeds United’s dressing room is purely coincidental. The Whites’ manager is attempting to build a core group of the appropriate characters, and Wales has proven to be fairly excellent at developing those qualities.

On Thursday, Connor Roberts joined Farke’s team on loan until the end of the season, bringing the total to four Wales internationals. While the other three were questioned about Roberts’ personality, Farke claims that is where the Welsh connection begins and ends.Ames and Rodon Leeds United discusses behind Roberts’ loan

“I don’t believe in passports in football,” that’s what he stated. “I also enjoy the identification with a club. It’s not about passports, but about characters.

“We’re all human beings, and it’s only vital whether a player’s personality fits into the culture of the club. It’s a coincidence that we have so many Welsh players, but it has to do with their mentality and the quality of the Welsh players we’ve signed.

“Daniel James was present even before I joined. I was always convinced of Daniel James and his character. I brought in Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon because I was confident in both their abilities and personalities.

“It is the same with Connor Roberts. It helps a little when a few boys are around and you ask them questions about his personality or character, and you get perfect feedback firsthand from individuals you trust.

“I also spoke privately with our Welsh players about him, and the reply was quite positive, but it is a coincidence. It’s not like we want to establish a Welsh core group within our club.
