Head coach of the Tennessee Titans, Brian Callahan, is still assembling his coaching staff. Recently, Paul Kuharsky posted a number of updates on his timeline on Twitter. Jason Houghtaling, the offensive line coach, has been let go. Coaches Bobby King of inside linebackers and Zak Kuhr of assistant linebackers have also done so. Pat O’Hara, the passing game commentator, will not have his contract extended after it expires. Special teams coordinator-in-waiting Tom Quinn will not be coming back.
In 2023, Houghtaling was Mike Vrabel’s first-year offensive line coach. There are still rumors linking Callahan’s father, Bill Callahan, to the now-verified vacancy. The elder Callahan’s desire to move to Nashville to be with his son is complicated by the fact that he is still under contract with the Cleveland Browns in the same capacity. Mike Munchak, a former player with the Oilers and Titans, has also publicly stated his desire to rejoin the team.
Pat O’Hara spent five seasons coaching Vrabel’s quarterbacks before transitioning to the role of passing game analyst. Bobby King spent the previous two seasons coaching linebackers. Relationships between O’Hara and King and Vrabel date back to the Houston Texans’ era. The departure of Tom Quinn, the temporary special teams coordinator, is also not shocking.
Justin Outten, the running backs coach and run game coordinator, is still employed and has an opportunity to stay on Callahan’s staff.
Outten, Matt LaFleur, and Mike McDaniel were on the 2016 Atlanta Falcons staff. Later, in 2019–21, he joined LaFleur with the Green Bay Packers, where he collaborated with Adam Stenavich, Nathaniel Hackett, and Luke Getsy. Outten subsequently moved to Denver to take over as offensive coordinator for the Broncos after Hackett. Callahan ought to continue employing Outten.
