BLOCKBUSTER TRADE: Texans Shock Fans With Another Unexpected Roster Move for Veteran DT

The Houston Texans have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Folorunso “Foley” Fatukasi, the team announced via their X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday morning.

To make space on the roster, the Texans waived cornerback Gregory Junior. Junior had joined the team’s practice squad last season and was signed to a futures contract in January.

Fatukasi originally entered the league with the New York Jets, where he played four seasons, before spending two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He joined the Texans last season and now returns for another stint.

With Fatukasi back in the fold, Houston now lists seven defensive tackles on its depth chart. The team signed Sheldon Rankins in March to bolster a group that already included Tim Settle and Mario Edwards Jr.

Settle had a breakout year in 2024, starting 11 games and recording a career-high 5.0 sacks, 31 combined tackles, and 10 quarterback hits. Edwards also contributed solidly, finishing the season with 31 tackles and 3.0 sacks over 13 games.

Fatukasi adds further experience and is known for his run-stopping ability. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, he led the team in 2024 with a 4.8% run stuff rate.

Although he missed part of the latter half of last season due to a shoulder injury, Fatukasi returned in time for the Texans’ playoff run. In two postseason games, he recorded three tackles, including one for a loss in their Wild Card win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

With a veteran-heavy defensive tackle unit, the competition and development during minicamp and training camp will be worth watching.
