SEATTLE (AP) — The New York Yankees have placed third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a left ankle fracture during Monday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners.
To fill the roster spot, infielder DJ LeMahieu has been activated from the 10-day IL after completing his rehab assignment.
Cabrera sustained the injury in the ninth inning of New York’s 11-5 win over Seattle, awkwardly sliding into home plate as he scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge.
Now in his fourth season in the majors, Cabrera has become a key part of the Yankees’ starting lineup. He is currently batting .243 with one home run and 11 RBIs.

“He’s someone who truly cares about this team and takes great pride in being a Yankee,” Judge said following the game. “It’s tough to see, especially for a guy who’s worked so hard to earn a spot as our everyday player and has been doing so well.”
