On May 2, 2025, during the Golden State Warriors’ playoff game against the Houston Rockets, Stephen Curry was seen on the court during a break in the fourth quarter of Game 6. However, in Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Curry exited the game after injuring his hamstring at the 8:48 mark of the second quarter. After Curry was substituted by Brandon Podziemski, he did not return to the game.
Following the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed Curry’s condition, revealing that the team was preparing for Game 2 without Curry, as they awaited further tests and imaging to assess the injury’s severity. Curry was observed leaving the arena with a noticeable limp, leading to doubts about his participation in the upcoming game.
This hamstring injury is a first for Curry in his 16-year NBA career. At 37 years old, Curry’s style of play, which involves quick movement, cutting, and attacking the basket, makes recovery crucial. The Warriors will likely take a cautious approach to his recovery, with the goal of keeping him available for the remainder of the series.
Curry had already been dealing with a thumb injury on his shooting hand, and his signaling to the bench to leave the game was a concerning sight for the Warriors. After a tough seven-game series against the Houston Rockets, where Curry played nearly every minute, he had just 48 hours to recover before Game 1. Despite the injury, Curry played 13 out of 15 possible minutes before the Timberwolves called a timeout in the second quarter.

Even without Curry, the Warriors triumphed 99-88 in Game 1, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Buddy Hield led the team with 24 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Hield also had a stellar Game 7 performance against the Rockets, scoring 33 points with a 9-of-11 shooting performance from three, highlighting his importance to the team.
If Curry is unable to play in Game 2, the Warriors will rely on Hield, as well as strong performances from Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green, both of whom contributed significantly in the victory.
