The Los Angeles Angels will be without star outfielder Mike Trout for at least 10 days as he recovers from a bone bruise in his surgically-repaired left knee, manager Ron Washington announced Thursday.
The update came after the Angels suffered a 10-4 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers in Anaheim. Trout sustained the injury during Wednesday’s 9-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners and was absent from Thursday’s lineup.
“He’s dealing with a bone bruise, so we’re going to give him time to rest,” Washington told reporters. “It’s not a major issue, but he needs a break.”
Trout, who had surgery on the same knee last year, showed signs of discomfort after a third-inning grounder against Seattle. He reached first base with a stretch of his left leg, was called out, and later returned to the field briefly before being removed from the game.
Now 33, Trout was once known for his remarkable consistency, playing in nearly 90% of possible games over his first nine full seasons. But injuries have limited him to just 226 of 648 games (about 35%) since 2021. This season has also been challenging statistically—he’s hitting a career-low .179 with nine home runs and 18 RBIs in 29 games.

Trout is in the midst of a 12-year, $426.5 million contract that pays him $37.1 million annually through 2030.
With a 12-18 record, the Angels are currently at the bottom of the AL West, trailing the first-place Mariners by six games. They’ll face off against the AL-leading Tigers (20-12) again Friday night in Anaheim at 9:38 p.m. EDT.
