The Sacramento Kings wasted no time making significant adjustments this offseason as they prepare for a hectic summer.
Within 12 hours of being ousted from the play-in round, the Kings parted company with general manager Monte McNair and reached an agreement with his successor, Scott Perry.
Perry is expected to make a difference in Sacramento, and he revealed his major goal during his introductory press conference on Wednesday.
“The goal here is to build a sustainable winner,” Scott Perry explained.

The Kings are probably unfamiliar with the term “sustainable winner,” as they haven’t experienced it in more for two decades. The Kings ended a 16-year playoff drought in 2022-23, but have since slipped out of contention.
The Kings are coming off a 40-42 season, and the franchise’s future has been unclear. The Kings have talents Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine under contract for a combined $91 million next season, and they are unlikely to improve or grow any younger.
Perry faces a daunting task in restoring the Kings franchise, but creating a “sustainable winner” can be accomplished in two ways. Perry will either come in and make win-now moves, or he will realize the franchise’s decline and pursue a rebuilding strategy. The problem is that the Kings have few resources for either route.
Perry mentioned that he appreciates a challenge, and developing this company into a “sustainable winner” will undoubtedly provide him with that opportunity.
“I embrace difficulties. I don’t avoid challenges. Perry stated, “I run to them.”
Perry’s belief in developing the Kings into a “sustainable winner” is a positive sign for Sacramento and a much-needed breath of fresh air for such a struggling team.
The Kings are set to have a busy offseason, but Perry appears to be up for the job of moving the franchise to the next level.
