JUST IN: Vikings Officially Confirm the Departure of Standout Veteran to Despised Division Foe

The Minnesota Vikings may have checked off several boxes on their offseason checklist, but one area that still remains a priority is cornerback depth. While the safety position appears stable, the team continues to evaluate options to strengthen its secondary, particularly at corner.

Last year, the Vikings decided to move on from one of their former high draft investments, trading away 2022 second-round pick Andrew Booth Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys. In return, they received another cornerback—2021 third-rounder Nahshon Wright. However, neither team seemed to get the upgrade they hoped for. Booth didn’t last long in Dallas and was waived before the conclusion of the 2024 regular season.

Wright, on the other hand, had a brief stay in Minnesota. Though he lasted longer than Booth, the 26-year-old Oregon State product made little impact. After playing in just one game and registering 15 special teams snaps in Week 13 against Arizona, Wright was released on Monday, hitting free agency with limited in-game experience in Minnesota.

Surprisingly, his time on the open market didn’t last long. Less than 24 hours after his release, Wright found a new home—and he’s staying in the division. On Tuesday, he signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, giving him another shot to prove himself within the NFC North.

Wright began his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, appearing in 33 games over three seasons, including three starts between 2021 and 2022. Across that span, he compiled 37 tackles, one interception, and five pass deflections. Despite a lack of standout production, the Bears see enough potential in the 6-foot-4 corner to add him as depth in their secondary.

Meanwhile, the Vikings have been busy reshaping their cornerback unit after moving on from Wright. They re-signed Byron Murphy Jr. and are looking for a breakout year from promising youngster Mekhi Blackmon. To further strengthen the roster, Minnesota also brought in several new faces via free agency, including Isaiah Rodgers, Jeff Okudah, Najee Thompson, and Tavierre Thomas—creating what could be a more competitive and versatile secondary heading into the 2025 season.
