JUST IN: “I Didn’t See It Coming”: NFL Quarterback says as he Makes Stunning Return with Iconic Seahawks Coach

The quarterback recently opened up about his excitement over reuniting with the Seahawks former head coach, now leading the Las Vegas Raiders. Carroll, who officially stepped away from his advisory role with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year, served as the team’s head coach from 2010 until his departure in 2023. Despite being 73 years old, Carroll continues to prove that retirement isn’t in his immediate plans, embracing a new challenge with the Raiders.

The quarterback and the legendary coach share a long-standing connection from their time in Seattle. the QB joined the Seahawks in 2019 and played under the Headcoach until the 2024 season. Now, their paths cross again, with the  coach taking the helm in Las Vegas and Smith arriving as the new quarterback for the upcoming 2025 campaign.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Geno Smith expressed both surprise and joy about the reunion:

“If you believe in fate, if you believe things are meant to happen, then it’s like everything is lining up perfectly,” Smith said. “It’s all the things you hope for. I see Pete, and all the people he’d want around him — we’re here, doing this together. I was heartbroken when he left Seattle. I didn’t expect this, but I think it’s going to be something really special for both of us.”

Smith entered the NFL in 2013 as the 39th overall pick in the second round, drafted by the New York Jets. Over the years, he’s made stops with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers before landing in Seattle, where he revitalized his career and played for five seasons.

Although Smith ultimately signed with the Raiders, he was reportedly on the radar of multiple teams during free agency. However, the opportunity to reunite with Carroll tipped the scales in Las Vegas’ favor. Smith now looks to elevate his performance under the leadership of the coach who once helped him turn a corner in his career.

In 2024, Smith threw for 4,320 yards and 21 touchdowns, though he also logged 15 interceptions. With Carroll back calling the shots, the hope is that Smith can not only refine his game but also reach new heights in the 2025 NFL season.

As both the quarterback and the coach enter this new chapter with the Raiders, there’s a sense of unfinished business and mutual ambition. And if their past chemistry is any indicator, the Raiders might be one of the most compelling teams to watch this season.
