The Los Angeles Chargers have been in the mix for nearly every top wide receiver in recent years, and this offseason is no different. Fans initially hoped to see Chris Godwin catching passes from Justin Herbert, but he remained in Tampa Bay. Davante Adams was also a highly sought-after target, yet he chose to sign with the Los Angeles Rams instead. With free agency options at wide receiver dwindling, trade speculation has been heating up—particularly surrounding an Indianapolis Colts WR
He is coming off a breakout season, posting career highs in touchdowns and receiving yards. However, with Indianapolis’ deep receiver corps, the team may consider trading him before he enters a contract year. The Colts already have Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and second-round rookie Adonai Mitchell, making Pierce more of a luxury than a necessity. Given their roster needs elsewhere, re-signing him might not be a priority.
Despite the crowded Colts’ receiver room, Alec Pierce is an explosive playmaker. He led the NFL with 22.3 yards per reception, showcasing elite deep-threat ability. At 6 feet 3 inches and 211 pounds, his rare combination of size, speed (4.41-second 40-yard dash), and leaping ability (40-inch vertical jump) makes him a mismatch nightmare for defenses. Anthony Richardson’s big arm unlocked his full potential in 2024, and he could thrive in a similar role with Herbert.

For the Chargers, landing Pierce would provide a much-needed deep threat to complement Justin Herbert’s cannon arm. His ability to track the ball downfield, win contested catches, and stretch defenses would bring an immediate impact to an offense lacking firepower. While the Chargers could still target a receiver with a similar skill set in the NFL Draft, a trade for Pierce remains a compelling option if they fail to secure their desired prospect.
