These are the headlines for Cardiff City for Friday, September 6.

Bulut is questioned about transfers but doesn’t waver

Erol Bulut discussed the club’s summer transfer market and was particularly questioned about trying to snatch forwards from the top division in Turkey.

During the summer transfer season, the Bluebirds added eight players, one of whom being Roko Simic, who was promptly loaned out to KV Kortrijk. They only added one additional striker, Wilfried Kanga, on loan from Hertha BSC.

A number of Turkish players, including Umut Nayir, were connected to Cardiff in the summer and January. They were also reportedly interested in Jackson Muleka, the forward man for Besiktas, but Muleka ultimately decided to go on loan to the Middle East.

“There were players I met with during the mid-season break last year,” Bulut stated in an interview with Hurriyet regarding Cardiff’s transfer activity. Umut Nayir was among them. Our desire was Umut Nayir. He was transferred to Pendikspor, but things didn’t work out there. That was our thought. We were

“After it failed, we purchased Famara [Diedhiou] from Granada. This year, we didn’t attempt anything like that. We had meetings with a few overseas players from the Super League both in the beginning of this year and last year, but we know exactly how much money we can spend. This year, we were more carefree about transfers.

“We were penalized last year; instead of being able to make moves, we were only allowed to sign free agents. In a few weeks, when these athletes adjust, I believe we will see improved outcomes.

Bulut was asked about strikers in the Turkish league and when the topic of Edin Dzeko, who has scored eight goals in his last seven games, came up, he joked: “He shows that he is a goal scorer. We need someone like that too! We are lacking in goals.”

Despite a rocky start which sees Cardiff at the bottom of the table with only one goal for, 10 against and one point to their name, Bulut is confident his team will bounce back and challenge near the top half of the division. He said: “We didn’t start the season well. Our preparation period went very well, although we scored a lot of goals, we have only scored one goal in four league matches, we were a bit unlucky.

“When we look at the games we played, we were not effective in scoring goals despite having the upper hand. We definitely need to change this situation after the international break. I have full confidence in my players. We lost 5-0 to Burnley, seven players from that team are not here right now, they were all transferred. We almost played against a Premier League team!
